Topic: Web Accessibility Requirements

Join WCHSA Executive Director Jen Searfoss for an overview of the federal requirements for web accessibility. The call will open up to discussion on how county Human Service departments are meeting the requirements. 

Background: The U.S Department of Justice April 2024 final rule mandates that all state and local government websites and mobile apps meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards [for the vision-impaired]. This includes:

• Providing text alternatives for images and non-text content.
• Ensuring keyboard navigability for users without mice.
• Maintaining sufficient color contrast for readability.
• Making content understandable and predictable.
• Ensuring mobile responsiveness and accessible touch targets.
• Making forms, buttons, and navigation clearly labeled.

The rule applies to all digital content, including PDFs, videos, and online services.
